I Must Be Adopted

I am truly hopeful that I am adopted, and thus not as messed up as the rest of my family.

Trash Day - No Rain

Well, it would seem that complaining here has a positive affect on somethings... lets try some more.

Does that mean that Traci got her contract with the big fat raise?

I agree that all county employees probably deserve a raise but I would find it hard to give a raise to Public defenders whose job it is to get lighter sentences for criminals.

no contract/no raise -- soon to be 13 months late.

And as far as the county is concerned, both the DA's and PD's are classified the same, with respect to salaries and positions.

As far as lighter sentences, I've learned tons about the workings of our judicial system over the past couple of years. You'd be surprised at the percentage (probably 75~85% of pleas) of people who plea to the charges they were originally charged with, and NOT some lesser offense.

The ones who generally plead to a lesser offense, generally do so because the police botched something in their investigation. I've heard Traci complain when she worked in the DA's office about having to take a plea, because most if not all of the evidence would be inadmissable.

So, if not pleading to a lesser offense, the criminal would walk scott free.

I have not done so, but it would be interesting to do some basic study about the different police departments in the area correlated to the amounts of times their arrests end in a plea to a lesser offense.

There are some departments with stellar repuations, and others whose reputations are pathetic. I'd like to see if the data agrees.

I'm willing to bet I can name the police department with the highest pleading to a lesser offense, and the one with the lowest.

Since I have a good friend who is employed by the overworked and underpaid York City Police Department I would have to think they have the most pleads to lower offenses. I would guess either Springettsbury or Northern Regional for the least.
