A sad day for Pink Floyd fans
Syd Barrett died the on July 7th, 2006. The information was just made public today.
For those of you who are only briefly acquainted with Pink Floyd, Syd was one of the original founding members of Pink Floyd, but left the group after the 1968 album A Saucerful of Secrets was released.
The 1975 album Wish You Were Here is a tribute to Syd from the band. Specifically the song Shine on You crazy Diamond (SYD), was written in reference to Syd's battle with mental illness. In addition, the character (Bob Geldoff) in the movie The Wall is also based on Syd Barrett and some of his quirks.
Now if you will excuse me, I believe I'll go listen to the album.
